Andrés Inyelco, guide and photographer in Torres del Paine
The origin of the name

Ngen

Spirit of nature, in Mapudungun

My name is Andrés. I come from the Araucanía region, part of the Mapuche people, and I grew up in the countryside learning from my grandmother to respect the Ngen: the spirit that inhabits, cares for and protects nature. That teaching never left me, and today I carry it with me every time I go out to document the wildlife of Magallanes.

I invite you to get to know the Ngen, to come closer to our history and to learn from those who have inhabited this territory long before us, like the pangi (puma, in Mapudungun) and so many other species that are part of this place.

Learning to recognize pumas

Torres del Paine has been puma territory for generations. With patience, their marks, scars and behaviors make it possible to recognize each individual and follow their story year after year. No outing is ever the same: sometimes the encounter lasts an instant and happens from a distance, other times it turns into minutes of close observation, with a cub playing right in front of everyone. You never know which one you'll get, and that uncertainty is part of what makes every outing special.

What people usually ask me

  • Territory

We cover the area around Torres del Paine and its various lookout points, aiming to cover a wide territory to find different species in different environments.

  • About the tour

Every outing aims to observe with respect, without forcing any encounter. We go at the pace nature sets, with the optical gear needed and photography support so you can capture what your eyes enjoy in the moment.

  • Certification

I'm a certified guide in trekking and wildlife observation, with certifications from Sernatur and the Ministry of Transport. If you need more details, write to me and I'll gladly share them.

  • Is the sighting guaranteed?

No. These are wild animals in their habitat, so there's never a guarantee. What I do offer is knowledge of the territory and patience to maximize the chances.

  • How many days do you recommend?

One day can be enough, but my recommendation is to take two or three to increase your chances of observation and to see different wildlife species.

  • Do I need to be a photographer or have experience?

No. The tour works the same for photographers and for those who just want to observe and learn about the wildlife.

  • What's included in the outing?

Private transport, certified guide, wildlife search and tracking, optical gear, photography support, and box lunch, coffee and drinks.

  • What's not included?

Entry to Torres del Paine National Park (purchased separately), travel insurance, and lodging or meals outside the box lunch.
