About Me

Ngen: the spirit of nature I learned to respect

Andrés Inyelco in Torres del Paine

Ngen

And that's how Ngen was born

My name is Andrés. I'm from the Araucanía region and part of the Mapuche people. I grew up in the countryside, raised in its customs, under the care of my mother and my grandmother. It was she who taught me the respect we owe to nature: to the Ngen, to the ancient inhabitants of this territory, and to the spirit that inhabits, cares for and protects every place. From a young age I learned to respect that culture, to learn from nature, and to take from it only what I need to live.

That teaching stayed with me my whole life, and I never drifted from the countryside. My connection to nature and the mountains never left. At fourteen I bought my first camera, and that's when something even more beautiful began to take shape: documenting through my lens what my eyes enjoyed day after day.

I've lived in Magallanes for a few years now. My relationship with pumas began in 2020, visiting the park frequently to photograph them, and in 2022 I earned my certification as a specialized guide in Torres del Paine. I also hold certifications from Sernatur and the Ministry of Transport.

Today I combine both trades: I guide and photograph at the same time. I know the behavior of the wildlife and the territory firsthand, and that knowledge is what I bring to every outing, always at a pace that respects the animals before the camera.

I invite you to be part of this expedition: to get to know the Ngen, to talk about our history, and to appreciate our place in nature, observing and learning from those who have been teaching us for a very long time, like the pangi (puma, in Mapudungun) and so many other species that have inhabited this territory long before us.

I accompany those who want to observe and document the wildlife of Magallanes, with the same respect I learned as a child, still learning from this territory every day.

How I observe

Four ideas that guide every outing

Mapuche heritage

I learned as a child to take only what's necessary from nature, and that respect guides every outing into the territory

Patience before the photo

The wildlife sets the pace, not the itinerary. No encounter is ever forced

Documentation with purpose

Documenting isn't just about capturing an image, it's leaving a record that helps protect what I photograph

Certified guide

Certified as a specialized guide in Torres del Paine, plus certifications from Sernatur and the Ministry of Transport
